Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a Construction Trades Worker in the Maintenance Shop. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. This is a bargaining, non-exempt, grade 25 position. Under supervision and/or direction, the incumbent in this position performs skilled building construction, renovation, and remodeling work of College facilities. This position will involve contact and interaction with college-wide constituencies such as colleagues, supervisors, managers, directors, vendors, and contractors for the purpose of coordinating work activities and receiving instructions and information.

Essential Functions

  • Evaluates project requirements, designs layouts for construction projects, and provides cost estimates.
  • Processes requisition of materials for completion of construction projects.
  • Prepares documentation for expenditures and work order requests.
  • Repairs worn or broken products, or fabricates items to complete construction projects.
  • Performs the work of journey-level carpenters, masons, painters, and plumbers to build, install, and finish work related to constructing and renovating structures.
  • Performs demolition work; erects studs, installs drywall, prepares walls for paint and/or wallpaper, installs tiles, installs plumbing fixtures, lays flooring, installs railing, performs rough carpentry, installs counters, and furniture.
  • Assist Electrician in project/jobs including cutting outlets, pulling wire, labeling panels and circuits, fishing down lines, running conduit, and trim out.
  • Maintains cleanliness, proper operational function, and proper storage of shop equipment, to include manual and power tools.
  • Cleans shop area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five years of experience performing general building maintenance or construction involving carpentry, masonry, plumbing, painting, basic electrical and/or other building trades work at the journey-level.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

Hiring Range: $25.68 - $35.98 per hour. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $44.27 per hour.
