Job Description

As a restaurant dishwasher, you're responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of dishes, glassware, utensils, cookware and your workspace.  It is expected you will use both machine and manual cleaning methods and assist with cleaning the floors and other areas of the kitchen as needed.  Cross training and cross utilization of your skills will be utilized for food prep and unpacking as well. 

Core Responsibilities:

• Maintaining Cleanliness:
  • Keep the dishwashing area clean and organized, including sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down counters, and taking out trash. 
  • Empty trash and recycling bins regularly. 
  • Clean and sanitize storage areas, including freezers and refrigerators. 

• Equipment Maintenance:
  • Check and maintain the dishwasher machine and other cleaning equipment. 
  • Report any malfunctions or issues to the kitchen manager or supervisor. 

• Additional Duties:
  • Assist with food preparation and other tasks as requested by the chef or managers. 
  • Assist in storing food deliveries. 
  • May be responsible for bussing tables or assisting with other kitchen tasks as needed. 

• Qualifications and Skills:
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle a high volume of dishes. 
  • Attention to detail and a strong work ethic. 
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods of time and lift and carry heavy objects. 
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures. 

• Dishwashing:
  • Sort and stack dishes, glassware, and utensils correctly. 
  • Ensure all dishes are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized according to health and safety standards. 
  • Load and unload dishes, glassware, silverware, pots, and pans into and out of the industrial dishwasher. 
  • Scrub dishes by hand when necessary.
