Salary:

$78,701.48 annually($3,026.98 biweekly)

 

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections
  • Must possess six (6) years of professional correctional experience, two (2) years must be in a supervisory capacity (Rank of Lieutenant or higher). College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of one year of the professional correctional required experience.
  • Must maintain accreditation as a certified correctional officer pursuant to the requirements contained in Florida Statutes 943.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning and directing of security activities which include establishing lines of communication, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures, reviewing, updating and maintaining security post orders, post charts, quarterly master rosters and shift assignments for all security staff of the institution.
  • Responsible for institutional operating procedures, emergency plans and the manual of operations.
  • Oversees and coordinates the security operations of the Unit.
  • Makes weekly inspections of the Institution to ensure that cleanliness, security and safety are properly maintained and that all inmates are properly clothed, housed, supervised, etc.
  • Provides direct supervision of Correctional Officer Lieutenants including preparation of performance appraisals, leave approval, etc.
  • Recommends personnel actions including hiring, promotion, termination and disciplinary actions.
  • Interviews and counsels male or female inmates with complaints or problems to bring about changes in attitude and behavior.
  • Prepares and submits budget recommendations for equipment, staff and supplies for the security department.
  • Serves as facility Commander for Warden, Assistant Warden and Colonel.
  • Attends meetings, mandatory and other training as required.

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of some or all the following: weaponry, public safety, security operations, rules, regulations, precautions, prevention, protection of people, data and property.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution. This may include strategic planning, resource allocation, manpower modeling, leadership techniques, and production methods.
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
  • Knowledge of policies and practices involved in personnel/human resource functions.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance, mental processes, psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, cultures, their history, migrations, ethnicity, and origins.
  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data for monitoring and evaluating.
  • Skills in developing approaches for implementing an idea.
  • Skills in listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work.
  • Ability to identify the best people for the job.
