Job Description

Job Summary:

The Creative Writing Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time, one-year faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in Fiction. Desirable subspecialties include such fields as Climate Fiction, Speculative Fiction, SciFi/Fantasy, Digital Storytelling, Graphic Narrative, and Hybrid Forms. This one-year visiting position begins Fall 2025 and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will teach the standard teaching load (5 courses per year) in the general area of Fiction. The incumbent will teach courses from the 100 level (primarily first-years and non-majors) to the 300 level (small workshops primarily for majors). We especially welcome applications from candidates interested in deepening and expanding the already rich offerings at our 200 (intermediate) level.

Required qualifications:

Among the qualifications required for appointment is the MFA or Ph.D degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2025). Candidates must have a minimum one book published or under contract with a nationally recognized press. Candidates must demonstrate potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable, as is experience teaching at a selective liberal arts institution.

Compensation:

Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
